Amorino: sweet excellence made in Italy. Italian ‘rose-shaped’ ice cream conquers the world

Now present in prestigious cities such as Milan, Paris, London, Barcelona and New York, Amorino represents the excellence of Italian artisan ice cream. Teams of ice cream makers work passionately every day to create exceptional recipes using carefully selected natural ingredients such as organically farmed eggs and high-quality fresh milk. Their mission is to offer quality ice cream that is free from artificial flavours and colours, and gluten and lactose free for those with intolerances. With an international reputation, Amorino is present in 16 countries, including France, Spain, Italy, Portugal, England, the USA and the Middle East, and is the world’s largest chain of ice cream parlours, with around 300 boutiques.

It all began in 2002 with the opening of the first Amorino boutique in the heart of Paris, on the Île Saint-Louis, a notorious must-see for visitors to the city. Cristiano Sereni and Paolo Benassi, co-founders of the brand and childhood friends, decided to combine their two passions: Italy, their homeland, and ice cream. The aim was to let Parisians discover the true taste of the best Italian ice cream recipes. Their bold project immediately caught the attention of the public.

In fact, Amorino is an artisanal ice cream. Only carefully selected ingredients are used, such as organic eggs and fresh milk from controlled farms, and no preservatives, artificial flavours or flavour enhancers are used, everything has to be natural.

Amorino ice-cream cones are formed into the shape of a rose using a spatula, giving them a unique and inviting appearance. This is a special technique that requires a great deal of skill and precision on the part of the ice-cream makers. Using a spatula, they arrange the ice cream on a cone to form petals that resemble a rose. It is this unique presentation that has caught the attention of the customers and contributed to the success of the brand.

Customers can choose as many flavours as there are rose petals, choose the size of the cone or cup and even add a macaroon to the ice cream to complete the creation.

In 2006, the success of Amorino’s gelaterie boutiques in France led to the opening of more than 90 outlets throughout the country. Two years later, in 2008, Amorino expanded beyond national borders by opening its first franchise boutique in Barcelona. The brand went on to conquer major cities such as New York, London and Milan. In 2016, Amorino obtained Vegan Society accreditation for all its sorbets. In the same year, it was awarded the CNGF’s ‘Glaces Artisanales de France’ quality label and celebrated the opening of its 150th boutique. Now, in 2023, the number of boutiques opened worldwide has reached 300.

Cristiano Sereni still has vivid memories of the first time he crossed the threshold of his favourite ice-cream maker’s workshop. He was just a ten-year-old boy and in that enchanted place he found an irresistible invitation to discover the magical world of ice cream. He was captivated not only by its exquisiteness, but also by the palpable pleasure that ice cream, a culinary marvel with innumerable properties and possibilities, brought to his palate. Today, three decades later, Cristiano’s passion for the art of ice-cream making is more alive than ever. Together with his friend Paolo, he proudly leads the enchanting adventure of Amorino. And what is the flavour that wins his heart? Pistachio: sublime, authentic and inimitable, he has often said.

How fortunate that the world of artisan gelato can offer delicious, surprising, tantalising and irresistible delicacies, and that Paolo Benassi has become its true and passionate lover. With his recipes, Paolo wanted to pay homage to this product that always evokes strong emotions in him. And of all the flavours available, which one wins his heart? Amarena, of course! Paolo is seduced by the perfect combination of the sweetness of the fruit and the freshness of the ice cream, a combination that makes him fall in love with every taste. The aim of these two artisan entrepreneurs is to create excellent ice cream in the most natural way possible. Their passion is reflected in their core values: the constant search for quality, pleasure and taste, the constant development of new flavours and the utmost attention to detail. Their runaway success has led them to open new outlets in prestigious locations, and queues outside their shops have become a typical summer scene in many capital cities.
